French Terry
French terry is a jersey fabric with a smooth outside and small, uncut loops on the inside.
Why it matters
French terry is a knit with a smooth outer face and looped inner surface. Construction, fibre, GSM and finishing determine warmth, hand feel and suitable use.
The uncut loops distinguish French terry from brushed sweat constructions. That creates different surface and wearing properties, not an automatic quality hierarchy.
French terry is commonly used for sweatshirts, hoodies, joggers and shorts. Actual warmth and moisture behaviour depend on the specific fabric.
Market GSM ranges vary widely. A single GSM value or the French-terry label is therefore not enough to predict comfort or durability.
Assess loop consistency, knit quality, dimensional stability, seams, fibre content and care instructions together.
