This page explains how the Performance Lab selects formulas, calculates results and communicates uncertainty.

Core principles

  • A formula is used only if its purpose and limitations can be explained clearly.
  • A result is never presented as more precise than the input data and the method allow.
  • Measurement error and individual variation are not hidden.
  • Calculators do not replace a diagnosis or individual professional advice.
  • Practical usefulness matters as much as mathematical correctness.

Estimate confidence

Every calculator includes a rating of estimate confidence. It does not describe whether the mathematics was programmed correctly, but how well the method typically approximates an individual's real value.

What the levels mean

  • High: The result follows directly from your inputs and is mathematically unambiguous. Deviations arise almost only from inaccurate inputs.
  • Medium: The method is well established but works with average values. Individual variation can shift the actual result noticeably.
  • Low: The method provides rough guidance. It is most useful for observing changes over time rather than for an exact single value.

How to work with estimates

An estimated value is a starting point, not a target. Observe your actual development under comparable conditions over several weeks, then adjust in small steps. Individual measurements fluctuate; trends are more meaningful.

Product guardrails

Some calculators and planners stop automatically before generating progressively lower or more aggressive targets. Those limits are conservative product decisions for a general-purpose tool — not universal medical safety thresholds and not individual medical clearance.

When a plan reaches such a guardrail, the correct interpretation is not 'everything up to this point is safe'. It means the Performance Lab will not generate a further automatic recommendation. Special health circumstances belong in professional care.
