Dimensional Stability
Dimensional stability describes how well a garment retains its original measurements and cut after washing and wear.
Why it matters
A shirt that shrinks half a size in three washes, sags at the shoulders or shortens loses perceived value fast — regardless of GSM. Dimensional stability is therefore one of the most important real-world quality factors for gym wear.
Dimensional stability comes from fiber quality, knit density, GSM, seams and pre-treatments like sanforising or garment washing.
In practice it only really shows up after several washes. A useful preview: how strongly does a fabric “work” when you stretch it and let it go?
Common misconception: “heavy = stable.” Heavy fabrics can still stretch out if construction and finishing are weak.
