Seam Construction
Seam construction describes how the fabric pieces of a garment are stitched together — from a simple overlock to double topstitching.
Why it matters
The choice of seam decides durability, fit and appearance. On gym shirts, movement, sweat and frequent washing put heavy load on the seams — reliable construction quickly separates from cost-cutting alternatives.
Overlock: classic serged seam on interior seams, prevents fraying.
Coverstitch: parallel double stitching with an elastic underside, common at hems and cuffs — clean, stretchable, durable.
Twin needle / double stitching: visible double stitching on hem, sleeve or collar; robust and visually premium.
Rib collar: a cleanly attached, elastic rib collar with a straight join is a strong quality indicator — a poorly attached collar warps after just a few washes.
