Deload

A deload is a planned period of temporarily reduced training stress, for example through lower volume, load or effort.

Why it matters

A deload can be used to reduce accumulated fatigue and support the transition into subsequent training. There is no universal calendar interval or fixed percentage protocol for every lifter.

Deloads can be planned or introduced in response to the training trajectory. Which variable is reduced depends on the sport, training phase and individual response.

Poor sleep, motivation or one weak session is not a deload diagnosis. Repeated patterns across performance, perceived fatigue and total load are more useful.

A deload is not a medical reset. Persistent pain, illness or unusual exhaustion should not simply be covered by a standard light week.
