Training Volume
Training volume describes the amount of training work; for hypertrophy it is often represented by challenging work sets per muscle group per week.
Why it matters
Volume is an important dose variable in resistance training. More work can add benefit up to an individual point while also adding fatigue — there is no universal optimal set corridor.
Weekly set counts are practical orientation rather than an individual prescription. Training status, muscle group, exercise selection, proximity to failure and recovery all change the useful dose.
Volume does not have to rise every week, and a deload is not a mandatory calendar endpoint. Adjustments should follow the training goal and observed response.
Common misconception: more is automatically better. Additional benefit can diminish while fatigue and time cost continue to rise.
